On Instagram, dozens of commenters identifying themselves as current or former Sprinkles employees reacted to the news, describing what they say was a sudden, company-wide closure.
“One day notice of losing my job — how will I take care of my 5 kids now,” one commenter wrote.
The brand later made headlines in 2012 when it launched what it billed as the world’s first cupcake ATM — a novelty that helped fuel the cupcake craze nationwide.
There’s a cupcake craze?
Yeah, way back in 2012. Cupcakes were definitely a thing for a little bit, but like everything else it passed on to something else. I always hated shit like this because all it really did is cause prices to skyrocket. No I will not pay $6 for a single cupcake.
Now you can go to Crumbl and pay $5 for one cookie! Progress is awesome.
Then there’s The Baked Bear, who charges almost $30 for a half-dozen.
But my fucking God, are those cookies damn near worth it. Honestly some of the best cookies I’ve ever had from anywhere, and their ice cream is pretty goddamn amazing as well.
I can assure you they aren’t worth it, both because they are Mormon but also because they don’t keep a tight enough leesh on their franchisees who keep doing child labor. Also you can probably find a local coffee shop or something that does artisan baked goods in general.
You could probably make equally good cupcakes at home just by using a little extra real butter and sugar instead of corn syrup and vegetable oil.
Although personally I do like that oil based icing. Buttercream icing is just too buttery for me. Cream cheese icing if I’m feeling fancy.
artisan goods are worth more, capitalistic bullshit is not
those cupcakes and those cookies ( crumble or whatever garbage like them)
meanwhile my favorite korean donut place open for 20+ years closed over covid
i hate it
2012 sounds right for that, actually. There definitely was one, but I couldn’t have guessed the year. There was just a time when I made a bunch of cupcakes because I kept seeing fun recipes online.
I have never had one of these cupcakes ever
what was so special about them again?
I feel like they were the inspiration for Kristen Wiig’s bridesmaids
Sprinkles was founded in 2005 by Candace Nelson, opening its first location in Beverly Hills. The brand later made headlines in 2012 when it launched what it billed as the world’s first cupcake ATM — a novelty that helped fuel the cupcake craze nationwide. That same year, the company was sold to a private equity firm.
Fucking private equity…

At a certain point you should ask yourself, can I afford these dependents? Should I have another?
How fucking dare you imply we think about consequences, or worse yet reduce the future low income workforce pool size. The man wants to get some tail!
Think of the children!
Just, don’t think too hard. Not like health, education, food, warm home is important.
