Donald Trump on Saturday said that he did not see Venezuela’s opposition leader Maria Corina Machado as a potential replacement for Nicolas Maduro after he was removed from power overnight.

“I think it would be very tough for her to be the leader. She doesn’t have the support within - or the respect within - the country,” Trump said, adding that he thought she was a “very nice woman” when addressing the potential for her to take power.

This actually might be a better outcome than if she did get put in power, though I suppose there’s an argument that Trump her such an obvious puppet might undermine her support.

It’s really hard to say whether Maduro or the Venezuelan rightwingers will be worse for their country. Probably the latter, since they’re now Trump puppets, so there will be nothing but looting and death squads.
