In my view, the EV-drivers are the idiots. Although I’d prefer “ignorants” as those can be smart and dumb.

EVs are almost 100% cloud-cars full with surveillance and subscriptions and everything bad that comes with it. Not to say EVs are inherently bad, they aren’t. I would love one, technically speaking. I also love tech and gadgets. But not this level of remote control over “my” car.

I went from Bentley to cheap dumb cars over the years just because they all do it, some more some less. And EVs are the top of the “modern” shit. But the “entry-level” cars are still only filled with the basics. Even haptic buttons and dials (beside a damn touchscreen though).

You will own nothing, rent everything, and be happy about. I won’t.

Modern ICE cars have the exact same telemetry, even at the lower end models now. There are ways to circumvent some of the monitoring by deliberately terminating their antennas however. It really depends on the model though and whatever documentation regular drivers would be willing to share. My EV was modified this way and now I have a tiny reminder on the corner of the console that it can’t connect.

This is all a bandaid of course. We either come up with a gray market of workarounds or we demand legislation to remove this shit in a privacy bill. Considering we have a mandate by Congress starting in 2027 to install AI equipped driver facing cameras to disable the car if the driver even vaguely looks incapacitated shows that it would be a massive uphill battle however.

True, ICEs are not far behind the shittiness. But at least you still can buy NEW cars that don’t suck. Ours e.g. now has AC, assheating, rainsensor and android-auto (I know no worthy alternative to being independent to the car’s shitty onboard-system. anonymous account, VPN and dedicated phone.)

And yeah, congrats you could “hack” yours, but it’s indeed bandaid. It’s just a constant battle you’ll loose in the end. Same reason why I gave up on windows and android. I’m tired l, boss.

Youre right in that new cars are all shit. But that goes for ICE and EV.

Rolling surveillance mobiles and unrepairable. Total garbage.

Old (note, old to me means 70s or 60s, but I think younger folks now think 90s is old, so I’ll go with that) was better in every way. I’ll take a 99 civic over any new car today. Though id say about 2012 is peak if you want more comforts (I do not). Really sucks we allowed the government and corporations to fuck up cars so bad.

True, the ICEs grow more shitty from year to year. But the EVs are made to be “the future”. They begin where some ICEs end. Plus you can’t really make a totally dumb EVs.

But yes, I loved progress from manually winding windows to electric, or ACs, and even android auto (on an anonymous account on a dedicated phone). But with “going online” and 99% touch instead of haptic, nope. Go fuck yourselves.

We bought some “cheap” cars to test if it would work too. And sticked with a Mitsubishi. No bells, no whistles, only what we really want/need.

You also cant make a totally dumb ICE anymore with safety and emission regulations. If you buy a new car, it will have all the necessary tech in it to track you and send telemetry. It doesn’t matter how barebone the car looks unless you personally stripped everything down to the metal and remove every electric component that’s not 100% required.

Maybe in the US…here, customers have a tiny bit of rights and protection left. our car has no such nonsense. Expensive crap has been stripped out. In this model you can’t even get any connected features and we already have the top model of the bottom class 😁

If with “here” you mean anywhere close to the EU market, then I have to dissapoint you. An SOS button is mandatory which then also includes a GPS module.

Only applies to brand-new models. Ours does not have this, despite being just made because the model itself is there for a longer time :-) Besides, this thing poses no harm at all. It just sends an MSD to the emergency-hotline. That is absolutely helpful. Why would I, or anyone, mind that?

I do mind telemetry and whatnot going to some nasty corporations without my consent. And subscription-based crap due to a constantly connected car. All Shit I don’t even want but also have to pay for like the obedient lil consumer-filth that they take me for.

You wear your ignorance with such pride

My EV has no subscriptions or anything remotely like that

But, you seem quite keen to use “shit I made up” as a reference, so I won’t bother engaging with you any more

If you would listen very carefully, you might hear the sound of me not caring about that.
