If it’s a model that uses an SD/SDXC card you could always take it out and put it in read-only mode (slide the little switch on the side of the SD card itself.) They’ll assume there’s nothing to see and move it.
Why can’t we have SSD’s and/or HDD’s that have a read only switch?
