One of my favourite weird things to do in public is talk to birds as if they could understand me. Usually in my native language but I’m fluent in Dove and Crow as well.

Holdup, there are people who don’t love birds? Free entertainment, I say, just living their lives out in the wild while we work and pay taxes. Every space with birds is just that much better.

I do! I love birds! I feed the neighborhood corvids and have some little flying scissors living with me as well. Always a blast when I spot a winged buddy doing their thing. I do feud with the seagulls a bit when the summer comes, but that’s on them for lunging at me

To be honest our apartment building doesn’t look like it would be great from the outside, and is in a not so great area, but there’s a wooded forest and river behind us, and we have an outdoor covered balcony looking into it. My older brother got me a bird feeder for it and it sparks so much joy to see them use it.

Then my spouse got me a book on birdwatching, and I got a second suet feeder with a ledge hanging from it so larger birds could feed— ye gods the woodpeckers get huge!

And then I got a hummingbird feeder and those little guys are so goddamn precious (but you have to wash the feeders once a week, which is a bit of a chore).

And then my strictly indoor cats have cat tv all day right outside with all manners of birds coming and going ❤️

I’ll hang out there to do my puzzles or read and try to be still whenever I hear them nearby— which is a lot. Such a soothing experience.

I’d be fine if we never moved again.
