Hi, I am on Grapheneos and don’t want to use Google play. Is there any way to make the map work in android? I have seen “manage custom tile sources” but do you know how it works?
Yes, download the right version from GitHub: https://github.com/meshtastic/Meshtastic-Android/releases
Thanks

TL;DR: Use F-droid
Looks like there are other .apks out there too, but I’d just stick with F-Droid since you’re already on Graphene and F-droid is a handy repository. Just be careful about what you install and where you source your apps.
I think they have the app but the map doesn’t work without Google play services enabled.
Tangentially related, I’ve been dropping Google apps for FOSS and especially FDroid alternatives. It seems wasteful for each app to be duplicating OSM tiles all the time. For things like Meshtastic as an “off grid” app, you’d want maps to be available with no data connection as well.
I’m not sure how useful it would be but pointing all of these apps to something like OSMAnd~'s downloaded maps makes a lot of sense to me.
Hey
Just create a new profile in settings
Install the google api (sandboxed) option that comes with graphene
Then install f-droid from graphene
Use f-droid to install aurora store
Use aurora’s anonymous mode to install maps
Et voilà
there is meshcore open https://github.com/zjs81/meshcore-open right now you have to install it via optainium or just download it from github, in future it will probably be also in f-droid
