It sounds like a better use of that person’s time might be doing requirements/design work on the subway. Probably less obnoxious to the people around as well.

News@lemmy.world•Can Americans learn to love tiny, cheap kei cars?
1·7 days agoThey are driven all around Japan including north of around morioka where the speed limit on the expressway goes to 120kph. People drive them on the expressways all the time (and speed over the normal 100kph limit ~ 62mph all the time as well). Many have turbochargers.

News@lemmy.world•Can Americans learn to love tiny, cheap kei cars?
6·7 days agoToo small, too dangerous, too bad in the snow, too likely to break down, too slow for expressways.
As someone who lives in rural northern Japan and drives his kei car on the expressways and in the snow: what? I’ve also never broken down. I don’t think kei cars are perfect, especially not mine, but this makes no sense to me as most people, including those living in Aomori which is the snowiest major city on earth, drive kei cars all year round. We do have winter tires here, unlike the all-seasons I used in the US.

3·7 days agoI generally like mine (Nissan Dayz Rooks HS ~2018). My two biggest complaints are lack of power for certain driving (like with 3 passengers and luggage uphill) but some have turbochargers, and secondly that the smaller footprint does make them feel much more flimsy in windy conditions. I’ve been blown around the expressway and felt like I was going to get blown over on a couple of occasions. Otherwise, I am quite happy. I still try to walk/train/cycle/motorcycle first, but sometimes that’s not possible or practical.
I assumed it was a personal name, but I don’t know.

I’m a US citizen and my wife is not. My grandparents are not long for this world. If one of them pass, I will be going to the US alone because I am terrified my wife, who speaks little English, will end up in some ICE camp. It’s horrifying and heartbreaking.

Science Memes@mander.xyz•Apparently your hobbies becomes less interesting if you're forced to do them all the time? Who knew?
1·10 days agoI worked in the MMO industry and played a lot of them, including ones I didn’t want to (and some that never saw the light of day or folded almost immediately). The last one I kept playing was Rift: Planes of Telara and, when they did an overhaul of stuff, I couldn’t be bothered to learn all the new stuff and just quit. That was probably 15ish years ago at this point. It also kinda ruined a lot of gaming for me for years. I do play games again now, and I do sometimes feel the itch for an MMO, but I haven’t played one again.

Technology@lemmy.world•LG TVs’ unremovable Copilot shortcut is the least of smart TVs’ AI problems
2·10 days agoThanks for the advice; I’ll check into that. It’s probably 6 meters at most if I run the cable behind things. My keyboard and mouse might work but it might be tight depending upon which version of bluetooth their dongles run (I don’t have bluetooth on the motherboard).

21·11 days agoI haven’t gotten this yet. Not sure if my TV is too old (2017 IIRC) or because I’m in Japan. I plan to just move my current PC into the living room when I can afford to upgrade but RAM prices just went nuts and video cards are still very expensive here (relative to wages but also because PC gaming is a niche hobby). I hate it.

Probably not but also partially because the numbers wouldn’t make sense to begin with in Celsius land.
