I was a little surprised that AI was actually not too off, or at least when it was, it was because it misunderstood the distro I used. I don’t think it’s a good idea to go beyond basics though, like installing random stuff from the AUR to fix something can go horribly wrong.
Shitposter while I tend to two babies. Maybe when I have my life back, I’ll help us get a few more niche communities back?

Yeah… That’s a violation of FERPA and is reportable offense that’ll get ya fired or sued. Lol
I’ve been using rEFInd for my dual boot and it shows a Tux, but that’s mostly cause I haven’t been tinkering with it. Now I’m tempted to use anime girl personifications of OSs instead, which would be really classy, I bet.
Now I want a shirt with that pattern to really screw with people. Then again, where I live (the US) that’s probably not a good idea.

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•New York teachers stunned to learn some students can’t read time on old clocks after phone ban comes into playEnglish
51·18 days agoHow is that even possible? The only clocks on display in my house are analog. Do people not have wall clocks? Do kids grow up never knowing what time it is? That’s a standard household furnishing.
Then again, it does say some students, so I probably should assume it’s a minority who never asked their parents what the fuck that thing on the wall was.

News@lemmy.world•Flu is surging nationwide, and doctors say we're nowhere near the peak
5·21 days agoCan confirm, family and I are sick.
It’s not hitting me particularly bad, but the kids are sick too and that’s a sleepless nightmare. Though, I’m probably worse than I realize since a sense of responsibility is kinda having me power through.

101·22 days agoI had an extremely similar experience. It was astonishing how quick people assume you are a woman simply by having decent enough grammar and aren’t a shitty person.
At least in an MMO it’s not dangerous feeling. If anything, it kind of makes it easier to lead groups since you can get people to just do stuff with you. Not great insight into being a women though, people don’t generally accept female leadership irl.
I agree. Can’t quite put my finger on it… maybe the window behind the monitor? I try not to assume simply because of the style, but the lack of author credit makes it hard to check anyway. The weird thing is it wouldn’t at all be hard to draw by hand.
Edit: I like all the different answers. It feels like a new, unfortunate version of the “find the differences” game.

12·23 days agoI can confirm this Christmas season that extended family members do in fact click on recommendations and so on, reaffirming that awful approach.
The amount of random crap we got… sigh. The thought counts, I guess.

News@lemmy.world•Texas father rescues kidnapped 15-year-old daughter after tracking her phone’s location
4·23 days agoOh, it sounds like the dog survived too! I’m kind of surprised; usually stories like this are like “he shot the dog and kidnapped the girl” but instead they were both found.
It’s not a coincidence they start playing Xmas music in October now… Only a matter of time until it’s year round. Blasted climate change!
Y’all don’t get it. Santa is a hive mind parasite that embeds itself in people and takes over at the later months of the year. It tends to hibernate the rest of the year although much like pollen, it seems to be waking earlier and earlier.

Believe it or not, it gained 10fps running on Arch… doing… whatever that thing was doing.

1·29 days agoI think we’re all kinda beat down by life, so I don’t really judge people on it. I just am not one of them, haha. (But I don’t even watch TV or movies much so I’m admittedly a weirdo).

Technology@lemmy.world•G-Assist is ‘real’: NVIDIA unveils NitroGen, open-source AI model that can play 1000+ games for youEnglish
6·29 days agoMy dad entered in codes for me when I was really little, but that’s kind of another thing entirely. I don’t think little kids have an achievement oriented sorta version of play, so anything goes with them. Once you’re older, that dopamine rush just hits differently, though.
In education you could also consider it a form of scaffolding. Enabling someone to do something they normally can’t do is a form of development, like giving handicaps in games and stuff can foster the skills to not need them eventually.

5·30 days agoI suppose. When I’m referring to cheats, it’s more in regards to invulnerability, infinite resources, etc., which seem to sap the point of having a game in the first place. Like making the fun parts into a grind, rather than the other way around.
That said, I’ll also say sometimes part of the challenge is the grind, so it depends. You have to pick your own poison, right?
Like, take Silksong for example. You lose out on the full experience if you mod out the annoying run from bench to boss, it’s like a 40 second annoyance built in punishment. But I get why you’d do that-- it’s technically there for a reason but I get it. Hell, even the difficulty adjustment mods I can understand.
But making the bosses die in one hit or making yourself invulnerable? Now you’ve lost me, that’s like a core element of the game; you might as well just watch someone else play it because what’s the point.

Try not to let selective memory mess ya up; a majority of your kindness is likely forgotten (saying thank you, watching someone’s bag while they are away five minutes, etc) until you get the one time it backfires. Rare events, especially negative ones, have high salience.
Cruel impulsives, on the other hand, you tend to remember when you were driven to a rage or when you shouted at someone you love. Impulses you should regret but do happen to normative people.
Unless you’re a terrible person, anyway, then these are reversed. Common cruelty and rare kindness aren’t default human behavior because it’s counter to tribal survival and evolution would just kill you off. That behavior usually the result of something like a toxic culture or upbringing, and very occasionally psychosis.
