I know we’re joking… but just in case people don’t know, π, despite what we call it in English, is the letter “p”, which ought to be said “pee”, and was chosen for “periphery”. Though “perimeter” could be used as as well. Because even though we have the special word “circumference” for the perimeter of a circle, pi is the ratio of a circle’s perimeter to its diameter. As in, take diameter, multiply by magic constant p, get perimeter.
Maybe not a teen thing, but among children I think “because 789” could bring 789 into the discussion.
It’s really easy! If you imagine that a black person and a white person could never be friends or spend positive time together, and then you saw a show that had them together, you might conclude the show is trying to convince you something is okay that you know is not. Propaganda.
If you imagine that a gay person is inherently wrong, and that bad things deserve to happen to them as punishment for their choices, and then you watch a show where a gay person is happy and normal and respected, you might conclude the show is trying to push an idea on you that you already know isn’t right. Propaganda.
It’s sad, and dangerous, but it’s not complicated.
I always assumed the name was more of a reference to audio Master Recordings.
It’s the original tapes or whatever that all copies are derived from. It’s also where the term “remastering” comes from, as in “we went in and rebuilt a new master from the individual tracks, and this is the new master now”, versus just making another copy of the master for a re-release.
Ugh, my bank does this. But they fucked up so bad, it’s on the client side and so slow that the page loads, and I go to click the login button, and then it moves out from under my cursor and I click the register button.
I don’t know who decided this was a thing people wanted, but they should have their UX license taken away…
