It’s such a nice treat when I don’t see it on a new project, especially on Microsoft’s GitHub.

21·11 hours agoYeah, I remember the ML hype was SO hot back then. I got into it a little late, but I remember the fintech company I worked at making this ML powered “credit card approval checker” to see how likely you would be to get approved for a CC without doing a credit check.
Anyway, it probably worked fine. Actually legit ML actually works a lot better for that sort of thing than today’s LLMs, but I’d bet it’s “ai powered” now.

62·15 hours agoDamn I hate how I have to look out for this slop here of all places. Well they seem like they’re trying to be a bit too much of a fedi influencer anyway, so it’s an easy block

11·9 hours agoIt’s funny because if he had actually turned into a cool person I bet this would retroactively have become a kind of fun campy picture. But really it’s just a reminder of what a disappointment he’s turned out to be.

91·16 hours agoI thought it was neat at first too, but yeah, have definitely lost interest. I’m surprised when I see people at work actually using it like on purpose.

1·1 day agoYeah… The certainty that this very conversation will be scraped and monetized is a real bummer. Makes me less likely to share my real self online.

7·2 days agoThank you for your service.
I also mod a couple communities on another account. Turns out if you just post things you’re interested eventually other people will join in and then you can just sit back and enjoy.

3·2 days agoUgh discovery. I also get it, but also there’s a thing called surfing the web: you just click around and keep surfing from one link to the next and before long you have enough follows to satisfy even the most voracious scroller.

4·2 days agoYeah I feel like with lemmy you could just move to a smaller network/graph of federated servers. Actually I think some splintering of the fediverse would be a good thing if its numbers keep trending up.
Also the fediverse is crazy cheap to access. Like I’ve got a $8/mo CAD server running a dozen websites and a snac2 instance and it doesn’t choke even a bit.

21·2 days agoNo, I don’t want to make an account.
No, I don’t want to download your app.
This combo drives me up the fuckin wall.
Obviously I think reddit is trash, but I can kind of understand other forums requiring a login (several of the small, private communities I’m a part of require them) but there is no good reason to push people to an app other than avarice.

1·3 days agoThat would indeed suck. Very paperclip maximising. Doesn’t even have to be malicious, really.
But yeah I was just reading about yet another critical CVE this morning. The third this week. And wondered to myself if I was seeing the end of the open internet.
Like will there be a day where it simply isn’t safe to leave a device just passively connected to the internet or any broadly distributed network? Like I’m behind two firewalls at work, surrounded by highly capable network and cybersecurity PhDs and still one of our systems got low-key pwned just this month.

2·3 days agoYeah I don’t want to be one of those guys, but even streaming is something I’d recommend moving away from. These days I only boy media that lets me keep an actual file that I can put on a media server and then I stream to my devices over WiFi from that.
Not to make it sound like I’m judging you at all. This is pretty new for me and it took me a few years to fully transition over.

I definitely do. But yeah a lot of people on GH are worried about employability and a big part of that is showing you’re down with big corpo tech.
