Yes, NixOS and GNU Guix are both technically source-based, but they pull from a binary cache server by default to prevent it from building everything. You could disable it, but i don’t really see the point since as far as i’m aware, nix and guix don’t have the use flags stuff like Gentoo has.

You never know, the grass might be greener elsewhere. I will say though, to me that only applies to independent distros. At this point i only bother trying distros that are actually different at their core. Arch- or debian-based distros are all kind of the same to me.
Void and NixOS in S tier is based, my two favorite distros. Because of me using void though i kinda miss using Runit when i want to use a declaritive system like nix. I’m working on a gnu guix config in a vm now to see if i can use that as an alternative instead. It’s not runit per se, but who knows, maybe i’ll still like shepherd better than systemd.
Considering chromeOS “freedom” is wild.

1·5 days agoSo far it hasn’t really happened to me yet. I tried configuring neovim, but since i’m still a noob at programming, it felt like it didn’t make much sense to put so much effort into configuring an editor, however i did want something terminal based. So instead i use helix now. Already has the lsp stuff baked in, and my config is just a few lines of toml.
Well, i’m probably not the right person to do that for you lol. I’ve daily driven NixOS for well over a year, however at the moment i’m actually working on a GNU Guix config in a vm lmao.
I could be wrong but i don’t think the wine instances themselves are containerized. Maybe he’s confusing it with flatpak sandboxing, since that is the only officially supported way of using it.
Oh lol, if that’s the case then it got me good.
Do those monitors have a touch display? Cause holy moly those prints lol.
And perhaps eventually system76
So far i’ve only seen it when looking at gentoo install videos. I’ve never seen it show up on any of the distros i’ve used.
Hmm, i didn’t know ubuntu was using a different shell. I’ve used it a few times in a vm. Other than that i installed it on my laptop once like 15 years ago lol.
I never tried anything other than bash tbh. Not sure if i should. I never really looked into what i might be missing out on with a different shell. Bash just works so i never felt like messing around with it.
Looks like it’s a fork of the original project.

That’s awesome lol. I think i remember watching a bunch of HaikuOS videos on his channel a few months ago. Looks like he makes some great content.
Well see that’s your problem right there, you’re using ubuntu /j
Me logging in automatically but having my lockscreen autostart when my window manager starts (i just do it because it makes the login transition smoother compared to a display manager, and i’m the only person who uses my pc anyway).
I never tried gentoo cause i never liked the idea of compiling everything. I only compile if i have to because i always feel like it’s a waste of time in general. I have used NixOS for the past 6 months though, but i didn’t like how many issues it gave me when updating. Now i’m back on good old void linux.
I’d say a tinkerer, somewhat of a control freak, and i like the novelty of trying more obscure things. I really liked NixOS, but i didn’t like the systemd part of it. Wanted to stick to Runit-only so went back to Void, but at this point i decided to try GNU Guix. Who knows, i might end up liking Shepherd better than Runit. I think Guix has to be the most obscure distro that i’ve played with so far. Luckily the documentation is great, cause the community is small so it might be tougher to find help from the community sometimes.
