Because genetically it is an individual and @ 25 weeks it both can feel pain and has a high chance of survival in the nicu. And yes many children need better care. But they are two problems and we should be tackling both. Teaching our children how to become decent parents at the same time as improving our social safety nets for all.

Scientifically speaking the brain doesnt reach maturity until around the age 23. A 13 year old while conscience doesn’t have the same conscience as a 23 year.A 3 year may be conscious, but I know wasn’t until around the age of 4. A 3 month old doesn’t have the same development and can’t even see color. At what point do you grant personhood and what justification do you have to deny others before that age?

At one point it wasn’t until adulthood. Progressively we have given more rights to others like nonwhites, women, and children as our society/species matures. We now even grant animals limited rights. I’m suggesting extending basic rights to any and all fetus’ that can survive outside the womb and to push medically to extend that age to as low as possible.

A 6 month old is still “parasitic” to its mother.

Now medically we have formula to substitute. We also have the nicu for children past 20 weeksandl we have artificial wombs for large mammals. Those could be easily developed to be human artificial wombs but of coarse that requires human testing which is immoral apparently. Even though having such wombs would mean the “my body, my choice” argument would no longer be viable and meaning that countless embryos frozen would have a pathway to life without being “parasitic.”

If the fetus was born at term a popped positive for drugs the mother would have been arrested for child endangerment and the child in foster care ( which no kid deserves.)

Medical advances now allow for brain surgery in the womb.

White men once thought black men were less than human. That women and children were property. Some still do.

Now I’m not for going after women for stillbirths, and in this case the medical examiner could not determine that the drugs caused death, leading to reasonable doubt. She should have been not guilty.

Fetus should have a right to life. But women also have right to body integrity. Rights should be carefully enshrined into law. With the change should include right to contraception and elective sterilization (non forced) with anesthesia and medical care.

Sounds like most politicians and all billionaires.
