I think you are giving people too much credit. Lots of people have a budget they can spend on appliances (like a credit line) and they get the best (most expensive) one they can get on that budget. Others will do the opposite and get the cheapest but only people like you find on Lemmy (Linux users for instance) in my experience will make a choice in the middle based on feature set.

I used to think it was a meme too and I still think it is to a point. But several of my recent jobs were at universities and I have met several people younger than me now who cannot read an analog clock, use a mouse, copy a file to a flash drive, or make change. One Fedex one UPS. Another Fedex package that was supposed to be here last week only got here yesterday.

My guess is that they hired more people in traditionally heavy areas so that there it’s going faster but in flyover country it’s business as usual.

Two things we ordered over a week ago were supposed to be delivered yesterday but now say the 27th. So YMMV I guess.
