“Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it, so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale hath had its effect: […] like a physician, who hath found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead.” —Jonathan Swift

  • “Hey, everyone, it’s ya girl Lizstagram here back with more dating tips. It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. However little known the feelings or views of such a man may be on his first entering a neighborhood, this truth is so well fixed in the minds of the surrounding families, that he is considered as the rightful property of some one or other of their daughters.”

  • This person writes an entire-ass blog post titled after this alleged 2020 Computers in Human Behavior study and can’t even be fucked to link it, name its authors, or even say what the title is. I cannot find this paper anywhere. I looked through all twelve 2020 issues of Computers in Human Behavior and could not find this study. I searched keywords. Nothing.

What an obnoxious fucking dipshit and their useless, almost-entirely-unsourced* piece of shit screed. Based on the wording and the fabricated sourcing, I wouldn’t be surprised if this ragebait blog post was generated with an LLM.

    * One source to a March 2017 Pew Research article the blog post claims is from 2018.

Sometimes I have rare nights when I feel good about myself and the future, so my maladaptive brain has a failsafe to make sure I’m never happy. “Everything is gone forever once you die. Your life has functionally already ended, yet it never began. Every second is of infinite and infinitesimal importance.”

Thanks, brain. Can’t even argue with that one. And you know it’s not helpful either. You’ve just had it beaten into you that it’s dangerous to hope. You’re just doing your job, but I wish you’d find a different one.

That’s not what this double negation cancels to, though. The cancellation of “I can’t believe it’s not butter” is “I must/I’m compelled to believe it is butter”. This is because you’re saying you lack the power to believe that it is ~B, where B is the set of butter. Thus, because you’re addressing that it exists (i.e. you have to believe it’s something), you not only believe it is in set B but are powerless to do otherwise. ∎

  • a) This article is predominantly about the food insecurity of people 65 and older, but I don’t expect you’ve read it. The data you’re presenting shows that demographic either stayed the same among men or went more blue among women and that women 65+ predominantly voted Harris. It’d be a 100/0 split in a sane world, but welcome to America.

    b) Navigator Research is some dogshit no-name pollster that explicitly exists for activism. I don’t care what their numbers from 5000 voters are even if I assume seniors do more broadly lean Trump than Harris.

    c) Both of those points are completely irrelevant to your ageist bullshit hoping seniors starve to death; collective punishment is disgusting to wish upon people, let alone when we’re talking a nearly 50/50 split.

Check and see if any therapists or reading tutors in your area are taking new clients. Just as long as you fuck off somewhere else.
