I can’t imagine it would be any different than a new gold mine opening up somewhere in the world.

News@lemmy.world•ICE agent shoots, kills woman in Minneapolis; Walz puts National Guard on standby
2220·12 days agoThe fuck do you mean hold the line? No one is holding the line. It’s being pushed back further and further every day and hardly anyone is doing anything, let alone “holding the line”.
Of course people are giving up, no one is doing anything.

4·12 days agoEspecially when the ad is longer than the video you are trying to watch.
Or you watch the entire video than accidentally swipe the edge of your phone and you are sent back, then have to watch it again to view the video once you click it again.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft Office has been renamed to “Microsoft 365 Copilot app”English
61·14 days agoWhy couldn’t they just stick with Office… It’s 100% explanatory, short, and to the point.
365 never made sense to me. Is it supposed to represent the year? Like available 24/7 but instead it’s there for you 365 days of the year? And if that’s the case why the fuck would I care? It’s software, of course it’s available to me whenever I want. It’s not a 7/11 hotdog rotisserie.

News@lemmy.world•Trump rings in 2026 at Mar-a-Lago with $2.75m auction of Jesus painting
2·17 days agoIt’s the perfect thing too, because everyone knows that’s exactly what it is, even the cops and government, but since only rich people are able to do it no one does a thing about it.
If they saw a poor person pay $1M for a painting they’d shut that down real quick though.
Well not as an individual but the owners/caretakers of the land are legally required to remove it and remediate the area.
Depends on the rules. Some places it would be illegal to disturb anything in conservation areas like parks but other areas it would be illegal to ignore invasive plants and not remove them.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•My kitten loves his hammock in the bathroom window, but my neighbor's trash pile ruins picturesEnglish
101·20 days agoI would probably send it a complain to the city.
Although you might not see it often due to the fence (can you not smell it) that much garbage probably is enough to cause substantial pollution being exposed to the sun and rain, and could also pose a fire risk if any batteries or chemicals made it in there.
There’s a reason people can’t just open up a business as a private landfill wherever they want.
I feel like any paper that’s published that cited a paper which got retracted, should automatically be reviewed and assessed to determine if they should also be retracted.

2·1 month agoAmazon also endorses fraud. Found a product which had a blatant lie in the description and specification pages but do you think I can find the report product button? Absolutely no where to be found.

Science Memes@mander.xyz•Mary E. Brunkow, one of this year's Nobel Prize winners in Medicine, has only 34 published papers and an H-index of 21.English
0·3 months agoHonestly if I see someone who publishes like 200+ papers I would just be wondering… What the hell did they contribute? They’re churning shit out the door so either they weren’t involved much and did the bare minimum to put their name on the paper or it was mostly inconsequential and non-impressive shit that you could churn out in a few weeks.
So its shit like this why RAM costs are up 500% or more?
