Was she stabbed?
She was shot repeatedly in the face.

Then what’s wrong with saying “fatally shot”?
Fatally shot implies the possibility that she was to blame.
That’s not how I interpret it. I interpret it as not assigning blame either way, which is typical for a news organization.
