MINNEAPOLIS — The woman shot and killed by an ICE agent in south Minneapolis Wednesday has been identified as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good.

The Minneapolis City Council released a statement saying Good was “out caring for her neighbors” when she was killed.

    Family later confirmed Good’s identity.

“This morning an Ice agent shot and killed Renee Nicole Good, a member of our community. Renee was a resident of our city who was out caring for her neighbors this morning and her life was taken today at the hands of the federal government. Anyone who kills someone in our city deserves to be arrested, investigated, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

"We are united in our support for our immigrant community and our residents in the wake of these attacks. We demand that ICE immediately leave our city so we can get rid of their chaos and violence that ended the life of one of our neighbors today.

"The City Council stands committed to working with our state partners in doing everything we can to protect our neighbors in this moment.

"Now is the time to reach out and support your immigrant neighbors. Minneapolis is resilient and will not back down as the federal government ramps up their attacks on our community.”

The joint statement was signed by Council President Elliott Payne (Ward 1), Vice President Jamal Osman (Ward 6), Council Members Robin Wonsley (Ward 2), Pearll Warren (Ward 5), Elizabeth Shaffer (Ward 7), Soren Stevenson (Ward 8), Jason Chavez (Ward 9), Aisha Chughtai (Ward 10), Jamison Whiting (Ward 11), Aurin Chowdhury (Ward 12), and Linea Palmisano (Ward 13).

As more details about Good emerged, it was discovered she was a poet and formerly co-hosted a podcast with her husband. She was also awarded the Academy of American Poets Old Dominion University College Poetry Prize in 2020.

    She leaves behind three children.

Renee Nicole Good. Remember her name. Do not let her be erased by fascist revisionism.

How nice that you are such a stable individual, and so level headed. Glad to see that someone realizes that only some u.s. citizens are to blame. When the time comes please have them identify themselves so we know which ones are the problem and can deal with them accordingly.

Its pretty easy actually, its the rich ones and the dumb ones. You could go after the dumb ones but they’ll always make a better dumb one, and they’re just dumb cuz of the rich ones anyway.

American here. I concurr. We all culpable to varying degrees but the worst are those who deny it, regardless of where they fall on the poltical spectrum.

Yes, I include myself. I don’t know what to do about any of this but do not it pretend this absolves me. I am open to any realistic suggestions.

Apologies for being one of the baddies. Sincerely.
