Yes, of course it’s a surprise that people from a fighting military’s most important branch won over a bunch of lazy peacetime professionals from a military of a country that doesn’t have hostile neighbors by land.

That’s not what US military is doing anyway, with supreme logistics and air supremacy putting army into such a situation would be a deliberate choice.
I mean if the US with it’s multi trillion dollar army that couldn’t beat rice farmers and goat herders or win anything really since WWii what’s to be expected? I think the only thing they exist for is to extract tax payer money for the arms manufacturers. If the US military were really capable and effective there would be no war in Ukraine or any country called Russia.
To be fair, the US has never won a war without either Britain, France, or both working with them. Americans are very good at causing a lot of destruction, but they have no idea how to stabilize or rebuild. Even when they can effectively beat the enemy weapons, all they know how to do is leave a chaotic mess in their wake, and whatever warlord is left with enough firepower to dominate the rest takes control eventually. They may take an objective, but they can’t hold it long term, because that’s not their job, that’s for private contractors, who are always grifters who take the money and leave things worse than they found it.
Roman legions spent more time building highways than fighting for a lot of the Empire. States build infrastructure. Markets build around it. The US is ideologically incapable of recognizing this fact that has been true since time immemorial.
It never was a question can/can’t and always was is it economically and politically viable to continue $current_war. usa is certainly capable, there seems to be little will to actually fight in a war beyond showing off ‘we are still cool and powerful believe us’.

That’s the neat part, you can’t maneuver, that’s why armor is virtually non-existent in engagements beyond being an artillery or slowly moving transport.
‘Hedgehog’ style defence for tanks and other armor actually works, and it takes a lot of effort to kill one of those, but they aren’t doing anything interesting and you can’t leave it alive unless there is total fire control on your side.
