Made with a heltek v3, 3000mah battery, and a plc enclosure. A friend of mine 3d printed it over at a local makerspace. Its been in my drawer for a while and finally found the time to make it. Works well, its been on for a day.
What is this used for?
tl;dr short distance texting (up to 25 miles depending on line of sight) without cell service.
This is the meshtastic community, which revolves around radios that use unregulated frequencies to communicate.
These radios are either standalone or connect to your phone via bluetooth. They allow you to text others or transmit some data (e.g. temperature, humidity in a greenhouse).
They’re completely separate from cell networks. They form their own network by repeating signals they pick up. You can designate how many hops a message will have, which is how many times that message will be repeated.
The more people who have one, the better it works.
That is pretty sweet. Need to add this to the to-hobby list.
Would you mind sharing the files?
I’ll have to ask. Might be a while.

Sweet!
That’s a big-ass antenna you got there! What version is this app? Mine looks different.
Yeah. Works well.
2.7.9
Can you tell us the battery life once you get some regular usage out of it?
Around 28 hours with WiFi on. Its kinda annoying how long it takes to charge 4+ hours from 0 to 100.
And it resets its name if the power ever goes out for more than 10 mins. That sucks.
Not terrible for a daily carry but not something I would take with me for trips.
Thanks for the update. Bummer it has those quirks
